About

My aim is to help everyday people grow food that is really good for them.

I am lucky to live with my wife Margaret on 38 acres, that includes natural forest, pastures and 1/4 acre of garden.  I grow sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, beets, lettuce, tomatoes, kale … in fact most everything we eat we produce.

All my life I wanted to be a farmer and as a kid I experimented with growing carrots, asparagus and other foods that I liked to eat.  I was hooked.

I was disheartened when I was told I needed a farm if I wanted to be a farmer, but I went out and got a job and gardened on the side.

As I got older I became interested in becoming self sufficient and by the time I was in my late 30s I had moved to a property large enough to sustain my family with healthy nutritious fruit and vegetables grown in our garden.  The kids were raised gardening but when they were helping the strawberries rarely made it back into the kitchen!

It is these years of experience and knowledge that I wish to share, to help other people grow healthy food for their table.  You don’t need acres of land but there are basics that I share on this web site, and in my newsletter, that will ensure you grow fruit and vegetables that not only look good but taste good and are full of nutrients.

I hope you find the information I share informative and helpful.  Once you have tasted fresh, healthy, nutritious vegetables that you have grown yourself, I hope you get as hooked on gardening as I did!
